Akarui Aikido (full name: Akarui Aikido Ryuu, which means in Japanese: The Luminous School of Aikido) has been operating continuosly in Hamilton and other cities since April 1995, so we’ve been around for 30 years and counting!
Akarui Aikido is an Aikido school in Hamilton. Aikido is a Japanese martial art focused on self defence and concern for both ourself and other people.
The Aikido you’ll learn with us is:
* effective for self-defence
* great for fitness and building self-confidence
* helpful for dealing with every-day conflict in a way that is safe, healthy, nonviolent, and productive, both for ourselves and the people around us
* flexible and can be applied to a range of situations .
* innovative. Our teacher, Shayne, love’s innovating to explore how we apply Aikido to new situations and challenges
* tailored to each students’ needs and ability. Our teacher is always happy to show students how Aikido can help in specific situations that students have questions about.
We welcome students from all backgrounds, ages, genders and sexual orientations, levels of ability and fitness, and special needs, etc. etc.! If you have any particular concerns or special needs our teacher is always happy to discuss these (see the contact details below).
So feel free to pop in and say hi and take a look during our training hours, or hop onto the mat to try it out. The first four weeks are free. Info on our training hours and location (including a map) are on our Training Info page.
